Failing while opening a coffee shop is easier. So much so that writing a practical guide is the least we can do to warn you of all the factors you must take into account to achieve your mission.

Numbers don’t matter!

Doing market research before investing in your business sounds boring. It’s far away from the idyllic passion of making people happy serving them delicious espressos.

Don’t pay attention to the numbers. What does it matter if there are 10 coffee shops on the block? Mine will be the best!

How about serving cold coffee drinks in Alaska or boiling Turkish coffee in Arizona? It doesn’t matter, people will get used to what I prepare, they must adapt to the demand, not me!

Why should I pay attention to production costs and expenses if I just want to fulfill my dream?

And so on…

Buy coffee from any supplier

If you want to open a coffee shop, you’ll need a coffee bean supplier, won’t you? Oh, you just found out that your couple’s best friend’s second cousin has a small coffee harvest in his backyard. Want to save money? Invest in coffee beans without recognized quality seals, of unknown origin and without precise roasting or harvest dates.

Set up your cafeteria at any location

Other entrepreneurs will tell you that the location and versatility of the place influence enormously your business success. But forget about it. Your goal here is to fail. Your priority is to open your coffee shop in a place without enough space for the clientele and with a bad distribution between kitchen, reception, and tables.

Hires untrained personnel

Anyone can make coffee, it’s just a matter of grinding the grain and making the espresso machine work. Why hire baristas with professional training? You don’t want a quality coffee, but a business that goes straight to waste.

Don’t invest in a good espresso machine

Since you won’t be working with professional baristas, it’s obvious that you won’t need a premium espresso machine.

Don’t think about its location or the barista’s workspace even. The more uncomfortable and imprecise the place where you place the espresso machine, the worse the result will be.

Make a letter the size of a book

Offering hundreds of alternative dishes and beverages always speaks well of the diversity of a restaurant. When you go to open your coffee shop, have drinks that you do not know how to prepare.

Zero marketing investment

Everyone uses social networks to invite potential customers to buy their product, as we are in an interconnected world thanks to the Internet. But you don’t need to promote or publicize your business. Your coffee will sell itself and speak for you.

Now you know what you don’t have to do to have an on-point cafeteria, you’ll be one step closer to going bankrupt.
